Situation

Morcín is a borough with a small surface area: 50, 05 sq km, located in the centre of Asturias. It has a population of 3,102 inhabitants, according to the 2002 Municipal Register, distributed among seven parishes : Argame (San Miguel), La Piñera ( San Juan ), Peñerudes (San Pedro), San Esteban, San Sebastián, Santa Eulalia (Santolaya) y La Foz (San Antonio).

Adjacent boroughs

It borders Santo Adriano and Ribera de Arriba to the north; Mieres and Ribera, again, to the east; Riosa to the south, and Quirós to the west. Garmonal Peak, situated at the point where the boroughs of Quirós, Riosa and Morcín meet, is the roof of the borough with its 1,712 m. Besides Gamonal, La Mostayal Peaks (1,303 m) and Peña La Vara (1,211 m) also stand out.
