Ruta de la Plata

Crafts

Interesting handicrafts are to be found all over the province, varying from area to area. For instance, basketwork is found in the north, using chestnut fibre as a raw material. In the area of Hervás, handmade furniture built using chestnut, briar, holm oak and ash are worthy of note.

A great quantity of decorative and gift objects are made from cork, especially in the area of Valencia de Alcántara, Malpartida and Cáceres. The hats from Montehermoso are very well-known; these are made from rye straw and adorned with sequins and mirrors.

Pottery and ceramics are to be found in the capital, Cáceres. We must also highlight the ceramics from Plasencia, Arroyo de la Luz and Ceclavín. As regards precious metalworking, copper is the material that is employed the most, especially in the area of Guadalupe
