This guide offers a selection of 8 birding routes distributed along the entire length of the Via de la Plata which aim to be representative of the huge diversity of existing ecosystems in the western part of the Iberian Peninsula. These routes offer the possibility of seeing the most emblematic species for birdwatchers, such as the Iberian imperial eagle, the lesser kestrel, the black stork, the bustard, the pratincole, the capercaillie, the azure-winged magpie, the wallcreeper and the storm petrel, although true birdwatchers will also enjoy the more common birds, such as the colourful bee-eaters, hoopoes, common rollers, shrikes, finches, buntings and even the different species of sparrows.
