This rich area of fertile land known in medieval documents as Polvoraria on the banks of the River Órbigo comprises a good part of the villages of the region situated on the right bank.
As a whole, the Polvorosa is made up of low-lying alluvial land crisscrossed by canals and irrigation ditches, most appropriate for market gardening.
